The LCHS Boys Varsity Basketball team won their final home game of the season in thrilling fashion with a 53-51 victory over Riverside. The Raiders trailed the majority of the fourth quarter and were down 8 with about 4 minutes left in the game, but they cut into the deficit with two huge three pointers by senior Pierce Brenner. Senior Cam Corbett hit a three pointer to give the Raiders a 51-50 lead with about a minute to go, then Riverside came down and was fouled and split a pair of free throws with about 35 seconds left. The Raiders held for the last shot, and sophomore Matt Anderson drove the the basket and was fouled with about 4 seconds left before getting his shot off. The Raiders took the ball out of bounds, and junior Joe Alexander hit Corbett for an open layup to take a 53-51 lead with about 3 seconds left. After a Riverside timeout, they took the ball up the court and threw up a half-court heave that ended up falling short.
On their Senior Night, Cam Corbett (15 points) and Pierce Brenner (11 points) led the way. Junior Kyle Towne (10 points), Anderson (8 points, 7 rebounds), and Alexander (4 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists) also helped the Raiders achieve the victory.
With the win, the #3 seeded Raiders advance to the Dulles District Tournament Semifinals and will travel to #2 seeded Woodgrove on Wednesday night.
