MUSSELMAN H.S.: 75
The LCHS Boys Varsity Basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion last night to Musselman by a score of 75-74. Musselman rebounded a Raiders’ missed free throw with 6.5 seconds left and rushed down the court for an attempt to win the game. A Musselman player put the ball in the basket as the buzzer sounded, and after a few seconds of the referees looking at each other, they decided that the player got the shot off before the time expired and that the basket would count and the game was over. Video footage from the game appears to show that the player still had the ball in his hand as time expired, but that doesn’t change what the officials on the floor ruled, so Musselman came away with a one-point victory.
The Raiders were led by junior Joe Alexander who poured in 29 points in the best scoring outing of his career. The team also got 17 points from senior Cam Corbett, and 13 points from sophomore Matt Anderson.
The Raiders are back in action on Monday when they host Riverside in a game that was originally scheduled for 1/8. Their game will start at approximately 5:15 PM, depending on when the JV game that is being played before them comes to an end.
